Finding student accommodation in France

A guide for students

There are several ways to find your future student accommodation in France. Here are a few tips to help you in your search.

Le CROUS :

The Centre Régional des Œuvres Universitaires et Scolaires (CROUS) offers accommodation to students. To obtain CROUS accommodation, you need to submit between 1 and 4 preferences on the CROUS platform between mid-June and early July. The criteria taken into account are your income level and that of your family. Applications are processed in order of ranking according to the social index, your preferences and residences capacities.

Résidences étudiantes :

If you haven’t been successful in obtaining accommodation from CROUS, you can explore private student residences. These residences often offer equipped communal areas, such as a laundry! Student residences can be an interesting option because they allow you to meet people your own age and share experiences with other students.

Logement du parc privé :

Another option is to rent an apartment from a private landlord. To find accommodation on the private rental market, you can consult the classified ads on specialized websites or even contact a real estate agency. Find out more from your school too, as some establishments partner with platforms to reserve accommodation close to campus for their students.

AFEV :

CLLAJ :

For advice and help in your search for accommodation, you can visit the website of the “Comités locaux” pour le logement autonome des jeunes (CLLAJ). You’ll find lots of answers to your questions and support in your search!

To sum up, to find student accommodation, you can contact the CROUS, private student residences, the private rental market or associations such as AFEV. Don’t forget to explore the resources available, such as your school’s partner platforms or advice from CLLAJ.
